GE Energy's Rentals 'Performs' at Glastonbury Music Festival

ATLANTA, GEORGIA (September 23, 2004) — While thousands of fans enjoyed former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, Oasis, James Brown and other musical performers on stage at the Glastonbury Festival 2004 in England, GE Energy's rentals business rocked as well - only behind the scenes.

For the festival, which began in 1970 and runs in late June each year, GE Energy supplied 226 diesel generators that provided more than 20 megawatts of power for the event's 25 venues. GE also lined the 900-acre concert grounds with 13 kilometers of festoon lighting and about 40 kilometers of power cables.

GE Energy had 42 staff members and contractors on site for the event. More than 120,000 people from around the world packed the festival held on the Worthy Farm near Glastonbury in Somerset County, southwestern England. The three-day festival is one of Europe's largest annual music and cultural events. Tickets sold out within four hours of their release.

In addition to various musical acts, the festival also featured theater, circus and poetry performances. The proceeds from the event were earmarked for several global and local charities.

GE formed its energy rentals business, based in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1999 to offer rental equipment for temporary distributed power and climate control applications in the commercial, industrial, utility, oil and gas and special events industries.

Other 2004 special events that GE's rentals business has been hired to support include the recent Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, the Rock in Rio festival in Portugal and the Tour De Georgia bicycle race.

GE Energy has developed a broad family of rental products including natural gas-fired engines, diesel generators ranging from five kilowatts to 1.9 megawatts, a portable power plant with an output of nearly 23 megawatts, air conditioners as large as 50 tons and water-cooled chillers up to 1,000 tons.
