GE Energy Supplies LM6000PD Gas Turbines for Canada's Largest Oil Refinery

HOUSTON, TEXAS (November 1, 2004) — GE Energy was recently awarded a contract to supply aeroderivative gas turbine generators to TransCanada Energy Ltd. based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The equipment is being used for a cogeneration project located at Irving Oil's 250,000 barrel/day (nameplate capacity) oil refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Under the terms of the contract, GE will provide two LM6000 PD gas turbine generator sets for use on the Grandview Cogeneration project at the refinery as well as technical support, transportation and two step-up transformers. The LM6000 PD package was designed around Irving's existing heat recovery steam generators.

The turbines were manufactured at the GE Energy facility in Houston, Texas. Each LM6000 PD produces around 44 megawatts of electricity at site conditions. The primary fuel is natural gas. The turbines were shipped to the Irving Oil refinery in March 2004 and are expected to be in commercial operation by late 2004.
