New, 67-Megawatt Hydro Plant Near Nonoai, Brazil to Feature Turbines from GE Energy ORLANDO, FLORIDA (November 30, 2004) — A new, 67-megawatt hydroelectric plant in Brazil will be powered by hydro turbines supplied by GE Energy, the company announced today at Power-Gen International 2004. Under a contract of US$5.8 million, GE will provide two Francis hydro turbines and two generators for the Monjolinho Power Station on the Monjolinho Reservoir, Passo Fundo River, near Nonoai, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul Brasil. Engevix Engenharia S.A. of São Paulo, Brazil is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project. The Francis hydro turbines are each rated at approximately 35 megawatts, 61.8 head and 257.14 rpm, while the generators are 13.8kV, 37.5 MVA vertical axis machines. The equipment will be manufactured by GE Energy's joint venture in Brazil, GE Hydro Inepar, which has offices and manufacturing facilities in Araquara, São Paulo. The new plant is scheduled to begin service in the fourth quarter of 2006.
