A Wide Range of Material Systems

Ceramic matrix composites are the next-generation material system. Major advantages over metals and monolithic (no fiber reinforcement) ceramics include higher temperature capability, lighter weight, better corrosion resistance and adequate damage tolerance. They consist of carbon or silicon carbide fibers that have been individually coated and are surrounded by a silicon-silicon carbide matrix.
