Overview

GE has supplied brushless excitation systems for aeroderivative, frame gas, and steam turbines for more than 30 years. Many customers prefer the brushless system architecture advantages, such as elimination of brush maintenance and self-exciting permanent magnet generator sourced systems. However, aging analog voltage regulators are exhibiting the operational reliability and parts availability issues common in vintage systems and many lack the capability to add the Power System Stabilizer (PSS) functions being driven in today's changing regulatory environment.

The EX2100 brushless excitation system offers a variety of retrofit options for modernization of brushless voltage regulators in simplex or redundant configurations.

With features like third-party ground detector interfaces and engineered parts kits to allow for installation in generator accessory compartments (GACs), the EX2100 family of voltage regulators can easily meet the diverse needs of the 5 amp aeroderivative retrofit. The systems can also be integrated into a typical large steam plant to replace an aging 175 amp Westinghouse WTA™ regulator.

Regardless of the application or OEM, the EX2100 brushless regulator provides a powerful suite of configuration, diagnostic, and engineering tool as well as integral PSS functionality.
