Overview
The LS2100 Static Starter is an adjustable speed AC drive. It is applied as a starting means for large gas turbine-generator sets by operating the generator as a synchronous motor. Eliminating the need for a separate starting device, such as an electric motor, diesel engine, torque converter, and associated auxiliary equipment, Static Starters require less maintenance and less mounting space.

Connectivity
The LS2100 can be configured to start one or multiple gas turbines. It communicates peer-to-peer with Mark™ VI / VIe gas turbine controls and EX™2100 generator excitation systems on an Ethernet based network. Also, it shares the same Toolbox software suite as the turbine and generator controls for configuration, diagnostics, and data analysis to simplify overall maintenance of the turbine-generator set control system.
Applications
While most new unit gas turbine sites were constructed with multiple static starters in a cross connect configuration, which allows any static starter to start any generator, there were a large number of sites installed with single starters. For customers who want to improve the level of dispatch reliability, GE now offers comprehensive retrofit services for sites wishing to add an additional starter or cross configure adjacent power blocks with single starters. The retrofit service includes all the required engineering for the additional cable, medium voltage switches, and required control and protective systems modifications.
