Installing under the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System

This Topic Applies to:
GateCycle Software:Version 5.2x, 5.3x, 5.4x
Operating Systems:Microsoft Windows XP Home and Professional editions
Module:Setup
Keywords:GateCycle, Hardlock®, install, XP
Symptoms

Users who attempt to install GateCycle on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system may experience a blue screen crash and system corruption before the setup program completes. This can result in a system that will no longer start Microsoft Windows XP.

Cause

The third-party driver installation program for GateCycle's Hardlock security device ("dongle") that was included on version 5.40 and earlier CDs does not function properly under the Windows XP operating system and fails when called by GateCycle's setup program.

Resolution

Follow these steps to correct the problem:
1. Download the latest Hardlock driver installation package from the Aladdin Knowledge Systems FTP site at ftp://ftp.aladdin.de/pub/hardlock/hldrv32.zip.
2. Use an archival software utility to extract and run the program HLDRV32.EXE from the driver installation package.
3. After installing the latest Hardlock drivers, run the GateCycle setup program from the installation CD in the usual manner.

Note: You must install the latest Hardlock drivers before attempting to run the GateCycle setup program to prevent a system crash and possible system data corruption.
