License Problems after Upgrade from Version 5.2x to 5.3

This Topic Applies to:
GateCycle Software:Versions 5.3, 5.32
Operating Systems:Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Windows NT® 4.0
Module:Crypkey® Security
Keywords:GateCycle software 5.3 Upgrade, License Problem
Symptoms

If you upgrade a licensed GateCycle version 5.2x installation on a Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 system, you will experience license recognition problems when GateCycle version 5.3 is run.

Cause

The updated CrypKey installation program bundled with GateCycle version 5.3 adds the GateCycle directory using a long folder name path instead of a short folder name path as it did previously. The long path plus the previous short path from GateCycle version 5.2x confuses the CrypKey server, resulting in random license availability and changing site IDs if you try to register a new license. In some cases, a "restriction file moved" message appears if you click Register License in the error message box.

Resolution

Follow these steps on the affected machine:

1. From the Start menu, select Programs; then select CrypKey Server for Windows NT.
Note: If the CrypKey Server for Windows NT item is not displayed on the Programs menu, you can start it by double-clicking on CKCONFIG.EXE in the Windows NT root directory (usually C:\WINNT).
2. Find the offending short path folder name (it contains a tilde "~"), select it and click Remove.
3. Click Close.
4. Restart your computer
