Boron-10 Proportional Counter

Sensitive & Durable

With the proper electronics, GE's Boron-10 proportional counter is operable in a gamma flux of 103 R/hr with about 50 percent loss in neutron sensitivity. This sensitivity loss is due to the higher discriminator setting that is necessary to cut out the piled-up gamma pulses. This also cuts out the smaller neutron pulses.

Product Overview

Features & Benefits

This detector has a sensitive length of 11.6 inches (29.5 cm). The inner wall of the volume is coated with 10B as the neutron-sensitive material, and fill gas is selected for optimum pulse characteristics. Boron coating absorption of the reaction products limits the effective thickness of the coating, thus the neutron sensitivity. By increasing the sensitive length of the counter, the neutron sensitivity is increased.

  • High temperature capabilities
  • Low operating voltage requirements make the 10B-lined counter a good choice for neutron survey meters
  • High gamma flux operation with reasonable neutron sensitivity
