He-3 Neutron Sensor Assemblies

Time-Tested Reliability

The Reuter-Stokes helium-3 filled proportional counter (RS-P4-0806-207) is the most common thermal neutron detector for porosity measurement. Built to withstand the harshest of environments, our He-3 detector incorporates more than 30 years of experience in developing sensitive, accurate and reliable instruments for rugged, high temperature applications. In addition to oil and gas exploration, the sensor is designed for use in mineral exploration and industrial counting applications.

Features and Benefits

Our He-3 detector uses patented purification techniques and manufacturing process controls to ensure precise matching of operating characteristics among large batches of detectors. This permits parallel operation of large numbers of detectors without the need for separate power supplies or gain matching.

  • Plateau slope less than two percent per 100 volts over a minimum of 200 volts range
  • At least 100 volts common plateau between room temperature and 347 °F (175 °C) with less than two percent count rate shift
  • High reliability backed by the best warranty in the industry
  • Sensitive measurements in extreme environments, including high or low temperatures, high pressures and high shock and vibration
  • Customized to meet specific application needs
  • All-welded construction with minimal degradation over time
  • Performance characteristics can be replicated over thousands of detectors
Electronics Package

GE has integrated its highly reliable and accurate helium-3 filled neutron counter with a compact, state-of-the-art electronics package, resulting in a total measurement solution that meets your needs. Our detector and electronics are engineered for stable, reliable operation in extreme environments.

  • Detector and electronics are matched at the factory, reducing setup time and labor
  • Electric module screws directly onto the He-3 detector, creating a compact assembly
  • Electronics package allows multiple detectors to be configured quickly and easily for digital pulse counting measurements; no need for complicated and expensive junction boxes
  • Designed for long-term stability and reliable operation in harsh environments
  • Compact size optimizes use of space
  • Aluminum-to-aluminum connection decreases noise
  • Visual pulse is indicated with a flashing LED light
  • Adjustable pulse width and amplifier gain
  • Connector arrangement assures proper configuration
  • Digital pulse signal is impedance matched to drive long transmission lines of approximately 328 feet (100 m)
  • Radiation hardened devices, performance tested in excess of one megaRad
