MAPS™ Public Domain Database

Comprehensive Data

GE offers databases for modeling all major market regions in the United States. These databases can be customized with company-specific data. Individual databases can be combined to create a broader database involving multiple NERC regions. GE supplies updates for a period of 12 months.

MAPS software provides valuable insight into the regional power markets. Its unique combination of generation, transmission, load and transaction detail has broadened the potential applications of production simulation models. Using public domain data and key assumptions, this powerful tool calculates location-specific electricity prices by simulating hour-by-hour production costs, while modeling the transmission system.

Elements of the Database

Generation Data

Thermal unit information includes heat rates, full and partial forced outages, fixed and variable O&M, minimum downtime and uptime, must-run capability and fuel type. Data on maintenance scheduling, pumped storage, external contracts and operating reserves are also included.

Transmission Data

Detailed modeling of the transmission system flows and limits is provided, including multi-terminal DC lines, phase shifters, transmission losses and contingencies.

Solved AC Power Flow

MAPS software uses the solved AC power flow to calculate the hourly flows on the transmission system. The power flow is used to monitor transmission limits on individual lines and interfaces.

Area Loads

The area load shapes and forecasts within pools are provided.
