GE provides extensive on-site rotor repair capabilities including CNC machining, grinding and balancing rotors up to 250 tons. The on-site services organization has a very well trained team and an extensive equipment inventory to make it unsurpassed in rotor repair.

CNC Dovetail Machining

GE uses CNC technology to custom manufacture low stress dovetails for a variety of different "pine tree" style designs. These low stress modifications will significantly reduce the probability of stress corrosion cracking recurring in the wheel by increasing the radii under the hook fits of the dovetails. The newly machined dovetails will still allow the re-use of old wheels, as the hook-to-hook relationship is not changed.

The dovetail CNC operations are easily modified to accommodate pitting removal or other machining requirements. The programs can be changed in the field or done remotely, and then e-mailed to the site to reduce delay.

GE has successfully machined over 150 wheels at customer sites. All wheels are dimensionally checked before and after machining with all readings recorded in a printed report for the customer's files.
