GE's start in Australia and New Zealand began in 1902, when we installed an electric motor to open the Pyrmont Bridge over Sydney’s Darling Harbour.GE Energy in the regionconsists of Power and Water, Oil & Gas, and Energy Services and employs 520 people.

Our ecomagination commitments for 2010-2015 are to reduce GE's energy intensity by 50% and reduce water consumption 25% through smart grid technology as well as water solutions projects.

Regional Considerations

GE Energy has office in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, and Auckland and had US $4.8B in sales in 2009. GE Power and Water offers water treatment systems that purify 70 million litres of wastewater per day for safe discharge in the Great Barrier Reef.

Our Energy Services business is providing systems to employ smart grid technology for more efficient transmission and distribution. With Australia leading in renewable energy policy making, wind energy in Australia is projected to be the most commercially viable form of renewable energy over the next 5 to 10 years.
